Nilgiri is a robust black tea from southwest India. The Nilgiri region of India is known for producing rich, well-rounded, and intensely aromatic teas, with environmental conditions that are perfect for growing high-quality black teas. Nilgiri has a full body with floral and fruity notes.

Cups Per Package

This luxury loose leaf tea is carefully blended and packaged by hand in a reusable tin or a resealable kraft bag. Our 3.5 oz. tin or kraft bag makes approximately 35 – 40 cups of tea. Our 7 oz. kraft bag makes approximately 70 – 80 cups.

Ingredients

Organic black tea (Origin: India)

Tasting Notes

Floral and fruity, with notes of honey and stone fruit.

How to Brew Nilgiri Tea

Use 1 level teaspoon per 6 oz. water. Heat water to boiling. Steep for 2 to 4 minutes. For best taste, do not over steep.

We recommend preparing Nilgiri using a teapot, tea infuser, or tea filter. These brewing methods allow the loose leaf tea leaves to expand as the tea steeps, resulting in a richer, more flavorful cup. Nilgiri is mellow enough to be enjoyed on its own, but also pairs nicely with a splash of milk and sweetener.

Nilgiri Tea Caffeine Content

Black tea contains a moderate amount of caffeine, less than half as much as coffee per cup.

Nilgiri Tea Benefits

Black tea boosts energy, helps with focus, and is a lower-caffeine alternative to coffee.

More About Nilgiri

Nilgiri is a robust Indian black tea with a full body and nice natural sweetness. The Nilgiri region is located in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India. While Nilgiri may not be as famous as other Indian tea-growing regions like Assam and Darjeeling, it is known for producing excellent specialty teas. The Nilgiri region features tall mountains, monsoon rains, and good soil, all of which make it an excellent region for growing tea.

Niligiri black tea is often described as falling somewhere in the middle between Assam and Darjeeling when it comes to Indian teas. It’s slightly less brisk than hearty Assam, but has a fuller body and less astringent bite than Darjeeling. Due to its unique environmental growing conditions, Nilgiri also tends to contain fewer tannins than other Indian black teas. This makes Nilgiri a great choice whether you enjoy drinking black teas on their own or consuming them with a splash of milk and sweetener. Nilgiri’s mild natural sweetness and fruity, floral aroma are sure to entice novice tea drinkers and experts alike.

Our Nilgiri is an excellent example of some of the finest quality teas produced in the Nilgiri region today. The tea leaves are intensely aromatic, with a dark black color and a few gold or copper tips. When brewed, the tea has a full body and a lovely amber color, with floral, fruity, and spicy notes. If you enjoy Indian black teas and are looking for something new, Nilgiri is a great option to explore!

As gentle as one expects from a good African tea

Just tried the first of three recent purchases today, and the Nilgiri is full of character but not overpowering. Enjoyed it very much, but even more, enjoyed interacting with Artful Tea staff, who were helpful without being in any way pushy--so appreciated.
