Cups Per Package

This luxury loose leaf tea is carefully blended and packaged by hand in a reusable tin or a resealable kraft bag. Our 4 oz. tin or kraft bag makes approximately 40 cups of tea. Our 8 oz. kraft bag makes approximately 80 cups.

Ingredients

Organic green tea (Origin: China)

Tasting Notes

Earthy and herbaceous, with nutty, creamy, smoky, mushroom, and flint notes and a clean, vegetal finish.

How To Brew Gunpowder Tea

Use 1 level teaspoon per 12 oz. water. Heat water until briskly steaming (not boiling). Steep for 1 to 2 minutes. For best taste, do not over steep.

We recommend preparing Gunpowder using a teapot, tea infuser, or tea filter. These brewing methods give the tea leaves enough room to expand as the tea steeps, resulting in a richer, more flavorful cup.

Gunpowder Tea Caffeine Content

Green tea is low in caffeine.

Gunpowder Tea Benefits

Green tea boosts energy, enhances mood, and helps with focus.

More About Gunpowder

“Gunpowder” refers to the shape of the leaves of this unique tea, which are rolled into small, tight balls. Gunpowder tea originated in China during the Tang dynasty, and is now popular all over the world. Today, Gunpowder green tea is still produced primarily in China. This tea has a bolder, more robust flavor than many other green teas, with a nutty, vegetal taste and a hint of smokiness. The leaves expand as they steep, and this tea can be infused multiple times.

Our Gunpowder is from an estate west of Hangzhou in China. This is a flavorful, medium-bodied tea with nutty, vegetal, and smoky notes. For those who enjoy green teas but are looking for a slightly stronger flavor, Gunpowder is an excellent option. If you like Gunpowder, be sure to also check out our Moroccan Mint flavored green tea, which blends Gunpowder green tea with spearmint.

Why is it called Gunpowder green tea?

Gunpowder doesn’t get its name from its flavor, but rather the shape of its leaves. These small, tightly rolled leaves resemble the grains of gunpowder.

Can you cold-brew Gunpowder green tea?

It’s easy and convenient to cold-brew Gunpowder. Just add tea leaves to your pitcher or pot, fill with cold, filtered water, and infuse in the fridge for at least eight hours or overnight. Cold-brewed tea tends to be smoother and milder than tea brewed with hot water.
